The mold for the bronze is heated while the bronze melts and is then placed in a sand box to have the bronze poured into it. Bronze is poured over a sand box instead of the floor because "when metal spills on concrete, it takes off like mercury," says Don. The sand also helps hold the mold level during pouring.
